I just want to see how this Blog post is viewed in Google Buzz. I should probably wait a few days to get an accurate estimate of how long it will take to post. Twitter was taking hours to show up in my Buzz feed when I tested on Wednesday.

Random comments, thoughts about the various Social Networks out there....

I am only updating this one post, a few times a month.

FaceBook.
This is a great tool but also a waste of time, just like the Internet. I use it to connect to people I know. I don't use it for playing games, taking quizzes, throwing virtual snowballs or sending people virtual drinks. I can check friends status updates on my Blackberry. I can also upload photos from the Blackberry directly to Facebook.

On Facebook security - Don't give out information that you want to keep private. That's it.

Linked In.
Linked in is a good place to upload your resume, even if you are not looking for work. It is like FaceBook for professionals, without the time wasting fluff. You can keep track of company and industry news, as well as connect to current and former co-workers.

Twitter
Twitter is like the FaceBook "Status" feature. You let people know what you are doing, or what web page you find interesting. It took me a while to figure out why people like using it. You need to load an application such as TweetDeck, find people to follow, and let people follow you.

Add on applications for Twitter will ask you for your password. This is a good way to get your account hacked into, if you pick the wrong one. A good rule is - keep your twitter password unique. This is the least secure of all online social media. If the password is stolen, your other accounts are safe.

I use TwitPic with my Blackberry Curve to upload pics to Twitter.

I was amazed how quickly I was able to set this site up. I already had a gmail account, that is one reason why. It is easier to use than Wordpress.
I don't have that much of an interest in running a blog. I just want to know how it's done. That's what this web page is - an experiment.

It's not for everyone. It's like a combination of Twitter, Facebook, Digg, YouTube and Blogging.

I have uploaded a few videos on YouTube. My video camera was stolen a few years ago. I have not bothered to replace it. I don't use this site much, as its tough to find something enjoyable to watch. Adding my 4 videos to the site did not help.

Digg - Social bookmarking. If a site has alot of "Diggs", then it may be a good read. If you 'digg' a site the link will be sent to either Facebook, Twitter, Friendfeed for other people to click on.

BrightKite
This site is like Facebook's status, or Twitter with GPS. Posts can show a map pointing to where you are.....Do you really want to let everyone know where you live? Reminds me of an ankle bracelet device that I hope I never need to wear.

On 4.21.2009 I created a Google Profile - I believe one of it's biggest uses is to centralize your information so you don't have to enter it into every Social Networking site you use. I noticed that FriendFeed does not have a Profile section. My Google Profile is.

Google Latitude - This works on my phone using cell towers to simulate GPS. it's ok.

Google Wave - I have tested wave on a 4 year old laptop. I would not recommend Wave on a 4 year old laptop. Wave appears to be a processor intensive web platform for real time collaboration projects. Don't have a use for Wave at the moment.

Google Reader - If properly configured you can read and share news.

Older networks

AIM - have not used in years.....I also keep FaceBook's chat feature disabled.
IRC - I used this from 95 to 2000 or so....I don't like broadcasting my IP address to the world, so I stay off.
Major BBS, WWIV, Procomm Plus - What I used before the Internet was invented. Back then everyone was in the same area, so we would have regular meet-ups at a Denny's or someones house.
